Full Biography

Un parcours marqué par la passion du son et de la scène

Born in Geneva in 1956, Daniel Duret discovered music at an early age and began studying piano at the age of five.
Music quickly became for him a true language — a way to express himself and to understand the world.

After completing an arts-focused curriculum at the Collège Voltaire in Geneva, he continued his studies at the Jaques-Dalcroze Institute, where he explored improvisation, percussion, and electroacoustics.

In 1982, he obtained his diploma and composed the music for the musical Catherine, Justine & Cie, performed at the Théâtre du Permis C in Geneva.

Between Composition and Teaching

✔ Composition, creating original works and musical performances.

✔ Performance, appearing on stage in concerts and song recitals.

✔ Teaching, sharing his passion for music in Geneva’s public schools, where he taught until 2017.

His commitment to musical education led him to write several educational performances, including Les légumes en folie(2002), a commission marking the 400th anniversary of Geneva’s Escalade, presented at the Grand Théâtre de Genève.

A Career Between Theatre and Music

In 1992, he composed the opera Atarante, performed in Geneva and in the canton of Fribourg.

His interest in theatre also led him to compose for puppet theatre, including Le Noël de Vanille et Cannelle (1998), and to appear as an actor in plays such as Complètement loufoque (1995).

His exploration of song and musical theatre began in 1996, with a series of performances blending humour, poetry, and emotion.

🎤 1996 – Issue de secours (Théâtre de Perly, Genève)

🎤 1997 – J’vais bien… (Théâtre de la Voirie, Pully)
